How Modern Abolition Began—and Why It Exists

Modern Abolition was born out of lived experience and a simple conviction: young people deserve more than systems that manage them—they deserve people who walk with them.

What began as a creative outlet grew into a calling. Through art, music, mentorship, and community, we saw how presence and creativity could open doors that programs alone could not. Over time, this work became more focused, more intentional, and more rooted in long-term relationships.

Modern Abolition exists because too many young people are navigating trauma, instability, and injustice without consistent support. We saw a gap—and felt called to step into it.

Our Story

Our founder’s journey through youth ministry, creativity, and community work revealed a pattern: when young people are seen, heard, and valued, transformation begins.

Early on, art and music became bridges—ways to connect, communicate, and build trust. Those moments led to deeper conversations, mentorship relationships, and opportunities to walk alongside youth in meaningful ways.

As the work grew, Modern Abolition expanded into detention centers, camps, schools, and community spaces. What never changed was the posture: show up consistently, lead with love, and stay for the long haul.

This is not about building a brand. It’s about building relationships.

I believe it's our duty to fight injustice, feed the hungry, defend the weak, notice the un-noticeable, bring hope to the hopeless, touch the untouchable, and never become a slave to the status quo. I always wanted to use my art for more than the sake of just being art...this was the birth of Modern Abolition.

We started out creating apparel as an art expression for impact & awareness to help fuel the mission of rescue. Now we use the methods of printing, design, digital arts, and other industry practices as vehicles, on-ramps, and tools for: character, career, social, and leadership development. It's about life-change over profit. Developing future leaders, business owners, fighters, rescuers, mentors and game changers.

We are now about prevention. It’s about affecting the 1-20 (people) that will bring in the next 1-20 (people).

I believe with all my heart, that changing and impacting the next generation starts with one life at a time. That's the Modern Abolition way.

Our Why

We believe every young person is created with dignity, purpose, and potential.

Our “why” is rooted in faith and shaped by the life and teachings of Jesus—who consistently moved toward those on the margins, offered hope without conditions, and valued people over systems.

We believe real change happens when:

  • Presence comes before performance
  • Relationship comes before results
  • Healing comes before behavior change

That belief guides every program, partnership, and decision we make.

What Drives Us

Modern Abolition is driven by a commitment to:

  • Faith in action — living out love in practical, consistent ways
  • Justice with compassion — addressing broken systems without losing sight of people
  • Creativity with purpose — using art and expression as tools for healing and growth
  • Community over isolation — building spaces where youth and families belong

This work is not fast. It is faithful.

Where This Leads

Our story continues through the lives of the young people we serve, the families we support, and the community partners who walk alongside us.

Every step forward—every conversation, every program, every moment of presence—is made possible through generosity, prayer, and shared commitment.
